admin March 25, 2026 5 min read

Yellowhorn is a tough, deciduous shrub-to-small tree that often grows as a naturally clumping, multi-stemmed plant with grey-brown bark that can look slightly twisted and finely fissured. In spring it puts on a charming show—upright clusters of white flowers with subtle markings near the center—followed by capsule-like fruits filled with oil-rich seeds. Gardeners love it for its cold and drought tolerance, and it’s also valued as an ornamental “oilseed tree” because the kernels are edible and rich in oil.
