Triangular murdannia is a low, moisture-loving perennial in the spiderwort family that thrives where the ground stays damp—think pond edges, marshy corners, and shaded ditches. It spreads by soft, creeping stems that root wherever they touch down at the nodes, quickly knitting into a natural-looking mat. Its narrow, bamboo-like leaves give it a grassy texture, and in late season it pops out small three-petaled flowers in pink through purplish-red to bluish-purple. In some places, the tender young shoots and leaves have even been gathered as a wild green, and it can also serve as forage.

Family / Genus Commelinaceae / Murdannia
Origin Widely distributed in southeastern China, typically found along rice paddies and in wet ditches, marshes, ponds, and other shady, damp habitats.
