Siam weed (Chromolaena odorata) is a fast-growing, shrub-like perennial herb that quickly turns open ground into dense, tangled thickets. It carries opposite, triangular-to-egg-shaped leaves that are often softly hairy, and with age its upright stems can become somewhat woody. Its flower clusters look like little fluffy tufts—usually white to pale pink or lilac—and they’re followed by dark brown, ribbed seeds (achenes) with a wind-catching pappus. That easy seed spread, plus its ability to thrive in rough, disturbed places, is exactly why it’s notorious as an invasive weed in many warm regions.
