Sago Palm

Autumn Bedroom Family & Genus
Oasislink Houseplant Editorial March 24, 2026 7 min read

Often sold as a cute “mini sago palm,” this plant is usually just a young Cycas revoluta. It’s not a true palm at all, but a cycad—an ancient group of seed plants—so it has that wonderfully timeless, prehistoric vibe. It grows very slowly, building a stout, pet-like trunk (caudex) topped with a tidy rosette of stiff, glossy green fronds. With steady care and patience, it’s a long-lived companion that can stick around for decades (and in ideal conditions, much longer).

Scientific Name Cycas revoluta
Family / Genus Cycadaceae / Cycas
Origin Southern Japan, including the Ryukyu Islands.
