Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia uvaria) is a bold, clump-forming perennial famous for its glowing “torch” flower spikes—like little garden campfires held upright on tall stems. Dense clusters of tubular blooms open gradually from the bottom upward, often shifting color as they age, so a single spike can show a beautiful gradient of red, orange, coral, apricot, yellow, or cream. At the base, narrow, sword-like leaves form a fountain of grass-like foliage that stays evergreen or semi-evergreen in milder climates. It’s a reliable, sun-loving plant that brings strong vertical drama and plenty of pollinator action to borders and beds.

Scientific Name Kniphofia uvaria
