Poinsettia is the classic winter holiday plant, loved for its bold, petal-like “flowers” in red, pink, white, or marbled tones. Those showy parts are actually bracts (modified leaves) that surround the real flowers—tiny yellow-green clusters in the center. In warm, frost-free climates it can grow into a woody shrub, but most people enjoy it as a cheerful indoor pot plant that lights up the home from late autumn through winter. It likes bright light, steady warmth, and evenly moist (never soggy) soil—and if you want it to color up again next year, it needs long, uninterrupted nights.
