Persian buttercup (Ranunculus asiaticus) is a cool-season, tuber-grown bloomer famous for its tightly layered, rose- or peony-like flowers in almost every color you can imagine. It’s a spring showstopper in patio pots, window boxes, borders, and as a premium cut flower. Give it bright light, cool air, and excellent drainage, and it will bloom generously—then, as temperatures rise, the foliage naturally yellows and the plant slips into summer dormancy (a normal part of its life cycle).

Scientific Name Ranunculus asiaticus
Family / Genus Ranunculaceae / Ranunculus
Origin Mediterranean coastal regions, northeastern Africa, and southwestern Asia.
