Living Stones (Lithops) are tiny, pebble-mimicking succulents that look almost unreal—like little patterned stones sitting on the soil. Each “plant” is basically one body made from two thick, fused leaves with a neat slit down the middle. Their tops are often grey-green, tan, or brown, decorated with dots, marbling, and translucent “windows” that help them blend into gravel in the wild. When they’re happy, they surprise you in late summer through autumn with a daisy-like flower (most often white, sometimes yellow) that pops right out of the central fissure. They’re compact, quirky, and low-fuss once you understand the golden rule: bright light and very careful watering.
