Kidney weed (Dichondra micrantha) is a charming, low, perennial groundcover that creeps along the soil and roots wherever its stems touch down. Its round-to-kidney-shaped leaves knit together into a soft, bright green “living carpet” that’s especially handy for shaded or consistently moist spots. It can cope with brief dry spells once established, but it isn’t a fan of heavy foot traffic—think “look and lounge,” not “soccer field.”
