Japanese kerria (Kerria japonica) is a charming deciduous shrub prized for its clear, butter-yellow spring blooms and its graceful, fountain-like habit. Slender green stems arch outward, making the plant look airy and fresh even before it flowers—and they can add a bit of winter interest after the leaves drop. Most plants grow to about 1–2 m (3.3–6.6 ft) tall, though older specimens can occasionally reach around 3 m (9.8 ft). It’s an easygoing choice for shrub borders, flowering hedges, and even large patio containers, especially where it can enjoy lightly shaded light and consistently moist, well-drained soil.
