Japanese hawkweed (Youngia japonica) is a cheerful little wildflower in the daisy family that often pops up where the ground has been disturbed—field edges, lawns, pathsides, and even pots. It grows as an annual to biennial herb with a basal rosette of leaves and branching stems topped with small, dandelion-like yellow flower heads. Tough and adaptable, it can act like a casual, cool-season groundcover in naturalistic corners, and it flowers for a long stretch of the year.

Scientific Name Youngia japonica
Family / Genus Asteraceae / Youngia
Origin Widespread across China; found on hillsides, valleys and gullies, woodland edges and understory, grassy clearings, damp ground, riverbanks and marshy areas, as well as fields and disturbed wasteland.
Aliases Japanese Youngia, Oriental False Hawksbeard
