Hybrid orchids are the showstoppers of the orchid world—bred by growers for big, beautiful, long-lasting flowers and (often) a more forgiving attitude indoors than many wild species. Depending on their parentage, they can bloom in nearly every color you can imagine, frequently with eye-catching stripes, speckles, or dramatic “painted” patterns. They’re a favorite as flowering houseplants because they’re widely available, rewarding, and wonderfully collectible.
