Houseleeks (Sempervivum) are charming, rosette-forming succulents that look like living little sculptures—tight spirals of fleshy leaves in shades of green, red, burgundy, and silvery gray. Many types show pretty variegation or a velvety, fine-haired texture. In summer, mature rosettes send up a sturdy flower stalk topped with clusters of star-shaped blooms. After flowering, that individual rosette naturally declines and dies (it’s part of their life cycle), but it leaves behind plenty of offsets—“chicks”—that keep the clump growing for years.
