Golden spider lily (Lycoris aurea) is a bulb-forming perennial loved for its bright, golden-yellow “spider” flowers that pop up in late summer to early autumn. It’s a wonderful choice for woodland-style gardens because it’s happy in dappled shade and evenly moist soil, and it also adapts well to containers and the edges of rock gardens. Once it settles in, it slowly forms clumps and can even handle short dry spells—just don’t leave the bulbs sitting in soggy soil.

Scientific Name Lycoris aurea
Family / Genus Amaryllidaceae / Lycoris
Origin Native to China (including Fujian, Taiwan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, and Yunnan), typically found on shady, moist mountain slopes.
