Florist’s Gloxinia

Autumn Bedroom Child Safe
admin March 24, 2026 9 min read

Florist’s gloxinia (Sinningia speciosa) is a classic, tuber-forming houseplant that turns a bright windowsill into a mini flower show. It grows a neat rosette of plush, velvety green leaves (sometimes with a reddish underside, and some cultivars even show attractive variegation), then sends up big, showy trumpet-to-bell-shaped blooms with a soft, velour texture. Flowers come in rich reds, pinks, purples, whites, and many bicolors—often with spots, stripes, or even double blooms. Given the right balance of bright filtered light, warmth, humidity, and careful watering that keeps the foliage dry, it can flower for months—though it may slow down or pause in the peak of hot midsummer weather.
