Floating primrose-willow is a lively, fast-growing perennial wetland plant that creeps and floats across the water’s surface, quickly forming bright green mats. In summer it pops out small but cheerful golden-yellow flowers, often with a darker “eye” near the petal base. It’s popular in pond plantings and constructed wetlands, where—when kept in check—it can help soak up excess nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus and support clearer water.

Scientific Name Ludwigia peploides subsp. stipulacea
Family / Genus Onagraceae / Ludwigia
Origin Native to eastern China (recorded from Zhejiang, Fujian, and eastern Guangdong). It grows in ditches and slow-moving waterways, ponds, and wet rice fields (wetland habitats).
