Ciliate bugleweed (Ajuga ciliata) is a hardy, low-growing mint-family perennial that’s loved for its “just keeps going” attitude. It spreads by slender rhizomes to form neat patches, sending up upright, square stems topped with dense summer flower spikes. The flowers sit in opposite pairs along the spike, and the stalk is famously fuzzy—lined with fine white hairs that give it a soft, ciliate look. It’s a natural fit for lightly shaded, moisture-friendly gardens, but once established it can handle a surprisingly wide range of conditions, making it a reliable groundcover or border plant.

Origin Native to parts of northern to eastern China (including Jilin, Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Shaanxi, and Zhejiang). It commonly grows along roadsides, in grasslands, under open woodland, and in moist habitats near water such as wet meadows and wetlands.
