Chinese grewia (Grewia biloba) is a tough, adaptable deciduous shrub to small tree best loved for its bright orange-red to red fruits, which can hang at the branch tips for months and keep the plant colorful well after the flowering season. It’s happy in full sun or light shade, copes well with drought and a fair bit of cold, and takes pruning in stride—so it works equally well as a low-maintenance landscape shrub, an open-woodland understory plant, or even a clipped fruiting hedge.

Scientific Name Grewia biloba
Family / Genus Malvaceae / Grewia
Origin Native to China; recorded from eastern and south-central regions (from East China through Guangdong to Sichuan). Typically found on hills and low mountains, along roadsides in grassland, in scrub, or in open woodland.
