Chinese fountain grass is a clump-forming perennial ornamental grass loved for its neat, fountain-like leaves and soft, fluffy “bottlebrush” plumes that sway beautifully in the breeze. It’s adaptable, fairly tough once established, and shines in gardens where you want movement, texture, and long seasonal interest—from summer flowers to winter silhouettes. It’s also useful on banks and sandy spots, where mass plantings can help stabilize soil.

Scientific Name Pennisetum alopecuroides

Origin Native across much of China (from the Northeast and North China through East, Central-South, and Southwest regions). Commonly found in fields, wasteland, roadsides, and low hillsides.
