Chinese foldwing (Dicliptera chinensis) is a tough, easygoing wild herb from southern China that naturally pops up in shady, damp corners—think village edges, ditch banks, and quiet roadsides. It forms a low clump of leaning-to-upright stems with deep green leaves. Locally, it’s especially loved as a foraged leafy green: the tender tips and young leaves are cooked like vegetables (stir-fried, boiled, added to soups, or served cold), and the foliage can also be used as animal feed. It typically flowers in autumn and finishes setting seed in late winter to early spring.

Scientific Name Dicliptera chinensis
Family / Genus Acanthaceae / Dicliptera
Origin Mainly found in southern China (e.g., Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian). Common in shady, damp places such as village edges, roadsides, and along ditches.
Aliases Golden Dragon Stick, Pig-Liver Vegetable
