Chinese bayberry is a beautiful evergreen fruit tree cherished in China for its round, bumpy, jewel-toned fruits that ripen to deep red or purplish red. The flavor is refreshingly sweet-tart—one of those classic “summer tastes” people wait for all year. Beyond the harvest, it’s also a handsome landscape tree, with tough, leathery leaves and a tidy canopy that suits gardens, courtyards, lawns, and even streets.
