Chinese ash (Fraxinus chinensis) is a straight-trunked, deciduous shade tree known for a neat, upright silhouette and a tough, go-with-the-flow attitude in city conditions. In spring it produces airy flower clusters, and later it sets the familiar ash “winged seeds” (samaras) that spin and drift on the breeze. Because it tolerates a wide range of soils and copes well with smoke, dust, and industrial air pollution, it’s a classic choice for streets, parks, towns, and even factory-area greening.

Scientific Name Fraxinus chinensis
Family / Genus Oleaceae / Fraxinus
Origin Native across much of China (north to south) and widely cultivated; typically found in mixed mountain woodlands.
Aliases China Ash, Chinese Flowering Ash
