Amur Honeysuckle

Autumn Family & Genus Fast Growing
admin March 25, 2026 5 min read

Amur honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii) is a tough, cold-hardy deciduous shrub loved for its powerfully sweet spring fragrance. In late spring, it produces tubular flowers along young stems—opening bright white and gradually aging to soft yellow, so you often see a lovely two-tone display at once. By late summer into fall, those blooms give way to rounded dark red berries that add another season of interest. It’s adaptable, sun-loving, and fairly drought-tolerant once established, making it an easy, showy choice for woodland edges, slopes, roadsides, and around buildings—just be sure to give it room to reach its full size.

Scientific Name Lonicera maackii
Family / Genus Caprifoliaceae / Lonicera
Origin Widely distributed in China; typically found as shrub thickets in woodland or along woodland edges, often near streams.
