Mudflower is a petite annual wetland herb with a surprisingly charming habit: it starts out a bit upright, then quickly branches and creeps, rooting wherever the lower nodes touch damp soil. Over a long season—from spring right through autumn—it sprinkles small, snapdragon-like blooms in shades of purple, purple-and-white, or pure white. If you love naturalistic plantings, it makes a lovely living “green carpet” for consistently moist spots such as pond edges, bog gardens, and damp woodland margins.

Family / Genus Scrophulariaceae / Lindernia
Origin Eastern and southern China (including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou); typically found along rice paddies and in wet grassland.
