Apricot (Prunus armeniaca) is a beloved deciduous fruit tree famous for flowering very early in spring—often while the branches are still bare. Its single blossoms open white to pale pink, followed by sweet, golden-yellow fruits that are sometimes flushed red and lightly fuzzy. Depending on how you grow it, apricot can be both a showy spring ornamental and a hardworking fruit tree for fresh eating and preserves. Do note: while the fruit flesh is delicious, the kernel inside the pit should not be eaten raw because it can release cyanide.
