Pedate-leaf pinellia (狗爪半夏) is a tuber-forming perennial in the aroid family, loved for its wild, “bird-foot” (pedate) leaves that split into multiple narrow lobes. In early summer it sends up a subtle, pale-green hooded spathe wrapped around a central spike (the spadix)—a classic aroid look, just mini and woodland-quiet. It naturally fits into cool, shady, moist places and can make a distinctive, naturalistic groundcover when conditions suit it.

Scientific Name Pinellia pedatisecta
Family / Genus Araceae / Pinellia
Origin Native to China; widely distributed across much of the country (reported absent from Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Shandong, and Xinjiang). Typically found in woodland understory, shrubland edges, grassy slopes, and disturbed or waste ground.
