Biond's magnolia (Magnolia biondii) is a deciduous magnolia grown for its wonderfully early, strongly fragrant blooms—often opening before the leaves have even thought about showing up. In late winter to early spring it produces goblet-shaped white flowers, frequently blushed purple-red at the tepal bases, on a graceful small-to-medium tree with smooth, pale gray bark. It’s a favorite for gardens, courtyards, parks, and streets, especially where you want a “first sign of spring” show.

Scientific Name Magnolia biondii
Family / Genus Magnoliaceae / Magnolia
Origin Native to central and western China; recorded from provinces including Henan, Hubei, Sichuan, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Shandong, and Gansu, typically growing in woodland habitats.
