Boston ivy is a vigorous, deciduous woody climber famous for its ability to “stick” to surfaces. Instead of wrapping around supports, it climbs using branched tendrils tipped with small adhesive pads, letting it cling tightly to walls, rocks, and tree trunks. Gardeners love it for fast, dense coverage and dramatic seasonal interest—fresh green growth in the growing season, then rich autumn color, plus small berries later in the year. It’s also widely used to green buildings and stone landscapes, where its leafy curtain can provide shade and help buffer heat and even some noise around structures.
