Wax Ivy

Bedroom Fast Growing Foliage Plants
Oasislink Houseplant Editorial March 24, 2026 5 min read

Wax ivy is a cheerful, easygoing vine grown mainly for its glossy, ivy-like leaves. The foliage is deeply lobed and often starts out with a subtle silvery sheen before maturing to a richer deep green, giving the plant a gentle two-tone look. It’s happy cascading from a hanging basket, but it can just as easily be trained up a trellis or frame to create a leafy indoor “wall cover”—all while being much less fussy than many tropical vines.

Scientific Name Senecio macroglossus
Family / Genus Asteraceae / Senecio
Origin South Africa (Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal; commonly grown worldwide as a houseplant).
Aliases German Ivy, Natal Ivy, Wax Vine
