Poppy anemone is a cool-season, tuberous spring bloomer adored for its vivid, papery, poppy-like flowers in red, pink, purple, blue, and white. It likes bright light and evenly moist (but never waterlogged) soil while it’s actively growing and flowering. When summer heat arrives—and sometimes in very cold winter conditions—it naturally slips into dormancy as the tubers rest. It’s a favorite for pots, mixed spring borders, and especially as a long-lasting cut flower, but it’s sensitive to ethylene, so keep blooming plants and cut stems away from ripening fruit.

Scientific Name Anemone coronaria
Family / Genus Ranunculaceae / Anemone
Origin Mediterranean coastal regions.
Aliases Crown Anemone, Windflower
