Clematis (铁线莲) is the famously glamorous “Queen of Climbers”—a much-loved group of flowering vines that can turn a trellis, fence, balcony rail, or garden arch into a waterfall of blooms. Depending on the species or cultivar, clematis may be deciduous or evergreen, compact enough for pots or vigorous enough to scramble 6–12 ft (1.8–3.7 m) or more. Flowers range from small and bell-like to huge, starry saucers in white, pink, red, purple, and blue; many types bloom from spring into summer, while others peak in summer through autumn. Give it sturdy support, cool roots, bright light, and steady (but not soggy) moisture, and it will reward you with a truly show-stopping display.
