Wishbone flower (Torenia fournieri) is a cheerful warm-season bloomer loved for its little trumpet flowers that look a bit like tiny pansies. The blooms come in jewel-like shades—blue, purple, pink, magenta, yellow, and white—often with contrasting throats and bright yellow markings that make them pop in the shade. Naturally compact and bushy (with some varieties that gently trail), it’s a go-to plant for brightening shady beds, borders, window boxes, and hanging baskets from late spring right up to frost. A bonus for busy plant lovers: it’s “self-cleaning,” so spent flowers drop off on their own.
