Balloon Flower is a lovable, long-lived perennial famous for its puffed-up, balloon-like buds that suddenly open into crisp, five-pointed star blooms. Most plants flower in rich blue-violet, but you’ll also find charming white and pink forms. Beyond its garden beauty, it’s deeply woven into East Asian culture: the thick, fleshy root is widely used in traditional medicine and—when properly prepared and cooked—featured in regional cooking, especially in Korea and parts of China.
