Wingpod purslane is a sun-loving, warm-season annual grown for its big, candy-bright blooms and easygoing nature. It forms a low, branching mat of thick, fleshy leaves, then pops out showy flowers in shades like yellow, white, pink, and red (with many cultivars offering even more colors—and some charming double blooms). After flowering, it forms a seed capsule filled with extremely fine seeds; the fruiting base is often distinctly “winged,” which inspires the common name.

Scientific Name Portulaca umbraticola
Family / Genus Portulacaceae / Portulaca
Origin Reported from parts of the Americas and widely cultivated or naturalized in warm regions including southern Europe (e.g., Spain, France, Italy) and Asia (e.g., China, Japan, Vietnam, India).
