Long-tubed ground ivy (Glechoma longituba) is a cheerful, low, creeping perennial in the mint family that naturally forms a soft green carpet. Its stems run along the ground and root wherever they touch down, quickly knitting into a mat of heart- to kidney-shaped leaves with gently scalloped edges. In spring, it pops out small, two-lipped mint flowers—often appearing as pairs at each node—making it a charming choice for cool, damp, lightly shaded corners. In parts of China it’s also known in folk herbal traditions (use with proper identification and caution).

Scientific Name Glechoma longituba
Family / Genus Lamiaceae / Glechoma
Origin Native to China and widespread across much of the country, occurring in shady, moist places such as woodland edges, open woods, grasslands, and stream banks (reported absent from Qinghai, Gansu, Xinjiang, and Tibet).
