Carthusian pink (Dianthus carthusianorum) is a tough little perennial that forms neat, low clumps of narrow, grass-like evergreen (or semi-evergreen) leaves. In season it puts on tight clusters of vivid deep-pink flowers, each bloom showing five slightly fringed, toothed petals with attractive darker veining. It’s a cheerful, wildflower-style Dianthus that shines in sunny borders, rock gardens, and groundcover-like plantings—especially where the soil is well-drained and on the lean side.
