Goldflame Spirea

Autumn Family & Genus Fast Growing
admin March 24, 2026 5 min read

Goldflame spirea is a compact, deciduous shrub loved for its “living gradient” of leaf color through the seasons. Fresh spring growth opens in glowing coppery-gold, settles into greener tones in summer, and finishes with a warm reddish to purplish-red show in autumn. In early to mid-summer it tops itself with broad clusters of rose-pink blooms—an easy, dependable way to add long-lasting color to borders, mass plantings, and low hedges.

Scientific Name Spiraea japonica 'Goldflame'
Family / Genus Rosaceae / Spiraea
Origin A cultivated selection of Japanese spirea (native to Japan, Korea, and China). The cultivar 'Goldflame' is widely grown in temperate gardens; it was introduced to the Beijing Botanical Garden in 1990 and subsequently proved well-adapted to the Beijing region, after which it became widely planted across China.
