Bearded knotweed is a moisture-loving perennial herb that feels right at home wherever the ground stays damp—think stream edges, ditches, pond margins, and wet meadows. It grows upright in clumps with narrow, lance-shaped leaves, and in midsummer it sends up slim flower spikes packed with tiny white to pale pink blooms. By late season, those flowers give way to shiny, three-angled black fruits. Gardeners often like it for naturalistic plantings in wet spots, where it can form a softly textured, flowering groundcover.

Scientific Name Polygonum barbatum
Family / Genus Polygonaceae / Polygonum
Origin Recorded in China from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Taiwan, and Yunnan; typically found along watersides, field margins, roadside wetlands, and in open woodland understory.
