Hyacinth is a classic spring-flowering bulb adored for its dense, candy-colored flower spikes and famously strong, sweet perfume. Each bulb sends up glossy strap-like leaves and a sturdy stem packed with waxy, bell- to star-shaped florets—an instant “spring is here” moment whether you grow it outdoors in beds and borders, or indoors on a bright windowsill. It’s also one of the easiest bulbs to “force” early in pots or in a special glass vase, as long as you keep it cool, bright, and never soggy.

Scientific Name Hyacinthus orientalis
Family / Genus Asparagaceae / Hyacinthus
Origin Eastern Mediterranean to western Asia (including Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine); widely cultivated (notably in the Netherlands) and naturalized in some regions.
Aliases Common Hyacinth, Dutch Hyacinth, Garden Hyacinth
