Flamingo Flower (Anthurium andraeanum) is a show-stopping tropical houseplant loved for its glossy, deep-green leaves and its long-lasting, waxy “blooms.” What looks like a flower is actually a colorful spathe (a modified leaf), usually red but also found in pink, white, purple, and bicolors, wrapped around a finger-like spadix dotted with tiny true flowers. With the right warmth, humidity, and bright filtered light, it can flower on and off all year—bringing a bold, modern splash of color to shelves, desks, and bright bathrooms. It’s also a star of the cut-flower world, because each bloom can stay attractive for weeks (often months) indoors.

Scientific Name Anthurium andraeanum
Family / Genus Araceae / Anthurium
Origin Colombia and Ecuador; native to tropical regions of South America (and widely associated with the tropical Americas, including parts of Central America and the Caribbean).
Aliases Anthurium, Flamingo Lily, Laceleaf, Painter's Palette, Tailflower
